Abstract of the Course
This course will provide an introduction to orthognathic surgery. Orthognathic surgery requires close teamwork between orthodontist and surgeon. This course will include diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning and execution of treatment and will describe the collaboration between the specialists and flow of treatment. Also, the course will address orthodontic and surgical considerations before initiating treatment, surgical techniques, risks and complications. Finally, the course will include an introduction to 3-D cephalometrics, computer-assisted treatment planning and splint fabrication based on 3D CT and surface scans.

PROF. STEEN SINDET- PEDERSEN
Prof. Steen Sindet-Pedersen received his dental degree from the University of Aarhus (Denmark) in 1979. He pursued further studies and completed his specialist training as Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon in 1985, and earned his Doctorate in Medical Science (Hons) in 1991 from the same university. Prof. Steen was a professor of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at European University College in Dubai from 2011 to 2013.
He was the Acting Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Aarhus University Hospital from 1989 to 1993. He was appointed lifelong Professor in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery by Queen Margaret of Denmark in 1993.
DR. ABDELHAKIM EL-GHERIANI
Dr El-Gheriani completed his postgraduate training in Orthodontics at the University of Colorado, USA in 2006 after earning his DMD from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 2002. He also holds an MS in Human Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh, BDS from Benghazi University, and an MSD from the University of Colorado. He served on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and more recently was Assistant Professor of Orthodontics and Clinic Director at the European University College (formerly Nicolas and Asp University College), Dubai.Dr. El-Gheriani is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists as well as the Emirates Society of Orthodontists. He is licensed in the USA, Libya, Dubai and Dubai Healthcare City and is registered at Mediclinic City Hospital
