A facelift procedure could be right for you if you:
If you meet these criteria, you may benefit from facelift surgery:
Your concerns and questions about the procedure can be addressed during the consultation. You should come to this consultation with a list of questions and concerns, and you should also be prepared to talk about your reasons for treatment, your expectations, your current medical conditions (including allergies), your current medication, your use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, your personal and family history, and the results of any previous facial surgeries.
Patients should expect their doctors to conduct a thorough examination of their faces and discuss their options for incision location, anesthesia, and outcomes in addition to assessing their overall health and risk factors.
You will receive pre-operative care instructions for your facelift from your surgeon. There are potentially multiple actions you must take:
At Vilafortuny, we perform a face-lift procedure on an outpatient basis. Our plastic surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Plastic surgery. As a requirement of ABPS certification, surgeons need to undertake advanced fellowship training and should be able to demonstrate expertise in plastic surgery.
You will be given an anesthetic so that you don’t feel anything as the procedure is being done. Your plastic surgeon will advise you on the best form of anesthesia, which may range from intravenous sedation to general anesthesia.
It’s possible to get a facelift in a few different ways:
Traditional facelifts are effective at eliminating the signs of aging in the face, neck, and jowls. The incisions are made in the temple hairline, behind the ear, and on the lower scalp during the procedure. The underlying tissues of the face are repositioned to look more youthful. After the facial contours have been refined, the skin is redrapped and the excess is removed.
In order to rejuvenate a sagging neck, a second incision is made under the patient’s chin. There will be sutures and skin adhesives used to close the incisions.
The lower face and neck are the focus of the mini facelift. In comparison to a standard facelift, the incisions for a brow lift and ear surgery are much shorter.
Excessive neck fat and skin are targeted during a neck lift. To accomplish this, an incision is made beginning in front of the earlobe and continuing around the ear to the back of the scalp. Loose skin on the neck and excess fat around the jawline can be fixed with this method.
Typically, only tiny incisions are made within the scalp or along the hairline. Then, the brows are raised to give the face a more alert and youthful appearance.
Unlike women, men have a harder time covering up the initial scarring of a facelift. Achieving a natural appearance while keeping masculine features requires careful attention to detail. If you want your incisions to be as unnoticeable as possible after surgery, they are typically made in the folds of your ears or behind your hairline. Tissues are tightened from the inside out, and any excess skin is removed. It helps to create a stronger jawline and neck.
Sutures are used to close the incisions after the face has been sculpted to its new shape. As time passes, the scars from the incisions will fade into the background, hiding inconspicuously behind the hairline or within the creases around the ears.
After the surgery, your plastic surgeon will be available to answer any questions you may have and will also give you detailed written instructions.
Home care after surgery is planned.
Drug orders and prescriptions.
Scheduled followup visits.
When the procedure is over, your face will be bandaged and small tubes will be inserted to drain any remaining fluid. You will be given pain relievers to help ease any suffering you experience in the coming days. However, patients should avoid strenuous physical activity for at least two weeks after surgery. Most patients can return to work after a week.
Also, there are risks associated with any type of surgery: bleeding, infection, and adverse reaction to anaesthesia are rare, but they can happen. You can reduce your chances of experiencing complications by carefully following your pre- and post-operative care instructions.
The benefits of a facelift are evident almost immediately after the procedure is performed. Because of how long it takes for your face to heal and settle, you will gradually start to look better after a few weeks have passed.
Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 should be worn regularly to protect skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
