Crowns: Restoring Damaged Teeth
If your tooth is damaged but not lost, a crown can be used to restore its shape, appearance and function. Essentially, crowns are recommended for teeth which have very large fillings, which are broken down, which lack sufficient tooth structure, that has had a root canal, or are fractured, worn, misshapen or discoloured. Crowns may be made from metal, gold, porcelain-fused-to-metal or could be fully ceramic.
“A crown is placed to protect the tooth from heavy biting forces. At present advances in porcelain materials enable us to mimic the natural appearance of teeth and hence give truly authentic results,” comments Dubai-based implantologist, cosmetic laser dentist and founder of Vilafortuny, Dr Kathrin Trelles.
