Ear surgery candidates include:
People over 18 who are self-conscious about their oversized ears.
To qualify, a child’s ear cartilage must be at least 75% developed (usually between five and eight years old).
Patients with low self-esteem because of their abnormally large or small ears.
The surgeon will make a tiny incision behind each ear and reshape the cartilage, bringing the ears closer to the head. It takes about an hour to two hours to complete the procedure, depending on whether or not local or general anesthesia is used. The outcome is smaller, closer-fitting ears.
Your ears will be bandaged to minimize swelling after the procedure. A comfortable headband for use, while you rest, will also be provided. Most patients can return to work within a week after surgery, it is important to protect the ears from harm for several weeks after surgery to ensure they heal completely and maintain the new position.
