In some cases, liposuction may be the best option, such as when:
Carry a lot of extra weight and/or have an unnaturally large head.
you have trouble reducing fat in certain areas despite your best efforts to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine.
Benefit from elastic skin.
Motivation to shape and strengthen one’s body
The first stage of liposuction is the consultation, during which you will talk with the surgeon about your goals, health, and lifestyle. You should come to this consultation with a list of questions and concerns, and you should also be prepared to talk about your reasons for treatment, expectations, current medical conditions (including allergies), medications, and use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, as well as your personal and family history.
You and your doctor will need to talk about everything from where to make the incision to what kind of anesthesia you’ll receive and what kind of results you can expect, as well as your general health and any risks involved, the areas of your body that need liposuction, and how to measure and photograph them for medical records.
You will be given preoperative instructions for liposuction, which will likely include the following:
Clinical evaluation and/or laboratory analysis.
Make some changes to your current medication regimen or start taking something new.
The recommended time to quit smoking before surgery is four weeks prior.
In particular, you should stay away from aspirin and other anti-inflammatory herbs.
You should make plans for getting back home after the operation.
Plan on having someone stay with you the night of the operation.
Vilafortuny performs liposuction on an outpatient basis. We have plastic surgeons that are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. An ABPS board certification requires advanced fellowship training and demonstrated expertise in plastic surgery.
You will be given anesthesia before your procedure begins, and it will be maintained throughout. Your plastic surgeons will advise you on the best form of anesthesia, which may range from intravenous sedation to general anesthesia.
Areas that will be subject to liposuction are numbed with an injection of a sterile liquid, and any necessary bleeding is reduced. Next, the surgeon will make very small incisions in the skin of the patient in the areas where excess fat needs to be eliminated.
Once the incisions have healed, a thin cannula will be inserted under the skin and moved back and forth to loosen the fat. Dislodged fat will be permanently removed from your body via suction using a surgical vacuum or syringe connected to the cannula.
Following the removal of the targeted amount of fat, your incisions will be stitched shut.
After the surgery, your plastic surgeon will be available to answer any questions you may have and will also give you detailed written instructions.
Home care after surgery is planned.
Drug orders and prescriptions.
Scheduled followup visits.
Swelling can be minimized by bandaging the affected areas after surgery. A little bit of discomfort in the first few post-op days is to be expected, and painkillers can help. Most patients can go back to work after a week, but they shouldn’t engage in any strenuous physical activity for at least another three weeks after surgery. While scarring is unavoidable, Dr. Trelles assures patients that the incision lines will fade over the following months.
Although liposuction results are permanent as problematic fat cells have been removed, factors such as adopting an unhealthy lifestyle, aging, pregnancy and genetics can cause an individual to gain weight again in the same areas. Post-surgery, a healthy lifestyle is crucial. What a liposuction treatment doesn’t do is replace a healthy lifestyle. It is not a solution for massive weight-loss.
