In order to determine if a neck lift is truly necessary, patients should come to the consultation prepared to talk about their motivations for the procedure, their goals, and any preexisting medical conditions. Patients will also be required to abstain from smoking and NSAID use for at least four weeks prior to the procedure.

The surgeon will use liposuction to remove the fat for good through barely noticeable incisions in the neck and lower face. You will be given anesthesia before and during the operation. Your plastic surgeon will advise you on the best form of anesthesia, which may range from intravenous sedation to general anesthesia.

A compression garment will be used to bandage your neck after the procedure in order to provide support and reduce swelling. It’s normal to feel some discomfort in the days following surgery; your doctor can prescribe pain medication to help. If you want to recover safely, you should rest with your head elevated. Dr. Trelles says that most patients can return to work after a week, but that they shouldn’t engage in any strenuous activity for the first two weeks after surgery.
